We vs. Me: Nothing makes people roll their eyes more than a co-worker who is focused on themselves, their gain and their career advancement.
Value Generator vs. Entitled: Instead of focusing on what the company owes you, trivial techniques include creating more value than you are expected to produce.
Focus on Developing Yourself vs. Comparing Self to Others: how can you become more of an expert? What can you do or learn that will help you to expand your knowledge base and develop yourself? Comparing yourself to others, their skillset, their title, their opportunities is not a valuable use of time. Focus on you and your own development, not on others.
Quality Conversations vs. Gossip: Low quality conversations include gossip, complaining, rumours and dwelling on the negatives, past mistakes and problems. High quality conservations focus on solutions, innovative ideas, encouragement and visions of growth. Mistakes, and what we learn from them, are helpful to resolving and responding to current and future challenges.
Improve Conditions vs. Complaining about Problems: Present resolutions and ideas, not just complaints about problems.
Take time to think vs. Always Being Busy: slow down long enough to hear yourself think. It’s essential to thrive in your career. All too often we agree to take on so many tasks there literally isn’t’ any time available able to think strategically about the business. Time to focus is not decadent, it is essential.
