Increase work performance
Modern workers average 8.8 hours a day in the office. That’s approximately 2, 288 hours a year. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, we spend only a minimal amount of time on leisure or other activities.
We’re working… a lot. I often find well-intended people working more and more hours to move ahead. The International Labour Organization’s 2011 study found that working more hours means you’re actually getting less done. Working too many hours can mean a loss of productivity and quality in your work.
How can you re-energize?
- Get serious about your hobbies. Schedule time on the weekends to do what you enjoy. What do you really love? Sometimes finding the answer to that question is harder than we think.
- Take more mini-vacations. Visit that restaurant you’ve always wanted to try, tour your own city or nearby town. By Monday morning, you’ll be refreshed and ready to take on the work week.
- Make use of the office fitness center (or join a gym). Take your day’s stress out on the treadmill or elliptical. This improves your physical and mental health. A clear head is one way to stay on top at the office, and regular exercise can get you there.
More effective energy management will allow you to be more physically energized, emotionally connected, mentally focused and spiritually aligned.
